2,756 traffic violations recorded in a single day... including 1,508 for "failing to signal a turn"
An extensive traffic campaign carried out by the General Directorate of Traffic in several governorates of the country last Thursday resulted in the recording of 2,756 traffic violations, including 1,508 violations for failing to signal when turning.
The Traffic and Operations Affairs Sector stated that the campaign was supervised by Brigadier General Ahmed Fahad Al-Azmi, Head of the Traffic and Operations Affairs Sector, and led by Brigadier General Rashid Hamoud Al-Hajeri, Director General of the General Directorate of Traffic, along with Colonel Ayoub Ghazi Fathallah, Assistant Director General for Traffic Regulation Affairs. This effort is part of continuous initiatives to enhance traffic discipline and curb behaviors and violations that pose a risk to road users.
The campaign featured intensive field deployment of mobile traffic patrols on various roads, where high speeds were monitored using radar devices, and traffic violations were detected by mobile patrols. Legal measures were taken against violators, contributing to improved road safety and reducing accidents caused by speeding and improper driving practices.
The 2,756 violations included 1,508 cases of failing to signal when turning, 940 cases of obstructing traffic flow, 243 cases of violating overtaking rules, 35 cases of speeding, and 30 cases of illegal parking (handbrake violations).
Additionally, five violators were placed in preventive detention, two minors were referred to the Juvenile Court, and 232 vehicles were impounded in the impound lot. Furthermore, 14 wanted individuals and three wanted vehicles were apprehended and handed over to the competent authorities.
The General Directorate of Traffic reaffirmed its commitment to continuing traffic and field campaigns across various regions of the country, monitoring violations and behaviors that endanger the lives of road users. It called on drivers to comply with traffic laws, road rules, etiquette, and speed limits to ensure their own safety and that of others.
