Al-Yousef: "There is none greater than Kuwait"

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, honored members of the General Directorate for Combating Narcotics who played a key role in thwarting the largest operation of its kind involving the manufacturing and distribution of “Larica,” a psychoactive substance, in the history of the State of Kuwait. He awarded them a bonus in appreciation of their sincere security efforts and the competence and vigilance they demonstrated in uncovering the case and arresting those involved.
This recognition aligns with the Ministry of Interior’s approach to appreciating outstanding performers and motivating security talents, thereby enhancing readiness and reinforcing a spirit of dedication and loyalty in the performance of duties.
During the ceremony, the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that all of Kuwait is proud of the honored officers and their work, led by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah; His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah; and His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. He noted that their achievements are a source of pride and honor for Kuwaiti families, given their contribution to protecting the nation’s youth from the dangers of these toxic substances.
He stressed that this seizure should not be the end of the matter, directing that the investigation continue into all aspects of the case and that everyone proven to be involved in importing or distributing the substances be brought to justice. He affirmed that there would be no favoritism or cover-up for anyone, and that nothing is greater than Kuwait.
He clarified that the main suspect admitted to refraining from distributing the seized quantity due to fear of the new Anti-Narcotics Law and the vigilance of security personnel. He emphasized that the absolute support from His Highness serves as a backbone for all Ministry of Interior personnel across all ranks, and as a motivation to continue working without slackening in confronting criminals and smugglers.
Al-Yousef added that Kuwait deserves much from its sons, and that what it has provided them exceeds what they can give it, no matter how hard they try. He thanked the honored officers for their tireless efforts and urged them to continue contributing and achieving more in protecting the homeland and safeguarding its security and stability.
The following is the text of Al-Yousef’s speech during the ceremony:
“I will not just say that I, as Minister of Interior, am proud of you... All of Kuwait is proud of you and the work you have done. Of course, at the forefront of all is His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince, and the Prime Minister. I believe and am certain that they are all proud of you, just as all Kuwaiti families are proud that you saved their children from this quantity, which has never entered Kuwait in its history.

Our role is to expose criminals and hand them over to the judiciary. Kuwait deserves it... It has given us more than we are currently giving it. No matter what we do to repay Kuwait’s kindness, we will still fall short. Because I truly do not want this seizure to be the end of the matter.”
Even this morning, I was speaking with your leaders about the matters we are investigating in the case itself. The threads will not be resolved unless all of them are unraveled, and each person’s role—whether in importation or distribution—must be exposed.
There is no one too powerful. We have no influence, nor do we have anyone we can shield or cover up for.
I believe my words were clear from the very first day I joined the Ministry of Interior. The instructions from His Highness the Emir are unequivocal: there is no one above Kuwait. This is my personal backing, as well as the backing of every officer in the Ministry of Interior.
The main suspect said that eight years ago, and I am certain that when I met him, I asked him: “Why don’t you sell the quantity you have ready?” He replied, “I’m afraid.” “Afraid of what?” “Afraid of the narcotics law and afraid of you.” “Why?” “Because our eyes are wide open today; we have absolute support from His Highness the Emir.”
Therefore, we absolutely do not intend to relax or allow any criminal or smuggler any opportunity to operate in Kuwait.
