Japan, the one-time champions, launched an attack from the opening whistle, opening the scoring in the 15th minute when Shota Fujio headed in a corner kick delivered by Tokumo Kawai into the net.

The second goal came in the 35th minute, when Kento Hamasaki scored from a penalty kick.

Japan did not wait long to extend their lead further. Tokuda showcased an impressive individual skill before slotting the ball into the net just two minutes later.

The second round of group matches will take place on Thursday, with Kuwait facing Yemen and Cambodia taking on Japan.
