In a move reflecting their shared commitment to supporting sustainable development and enhancing community responsibility, Al Rajhi Bank and Amena Company signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding the scope of cooperation in implementing environmental initiatives designed to promote a culture of sustainability and encourage the community to adopt eco-friendly practices. This collaboration contributes to national efforts to protect natural resources and enhance the quality of life for future generations.

The partnership stems from both parties’ belief in the importance of joint institutional action and the role of the private sector in actively contributing to sustainable development. This is achieved through launching initiatives with tangible impacts that transcend the traditional concept of community responsibility, becoming an integral part of the national development system that balances economic growth with environmental preservation.

Al Rajhi Bank continues to reinforce its position as a financial institution that places great emphasis on sustainability, by adopting initiatives and projects that enhance positive environmental and social impact and support sustainable development goals. This approach is driven by the conviction that economic development is inseparable from environmental conservation, and that true investment begins with building a more aware and sustainable society.

The memorandum of understanding embodies this approach, contributing to enhanced cooperation with specialized national environmental entities. This collaboration positively impacts the community and strengthens the culture of community participation in addressing environmental challenges.

On his part, Ayman Al-Mutairi, First Director of Public Relations and Corporate Communications at the bank, stated: “Under the memorandum of understanding, the bank will support the environmental programs and activities implemented by Amena, including specialized initiatives for the collection and recycling of plastics. These are among the most prominent initiatives that contribute to waste reduction, mitigating environmental impacts, and strengthening the circular economy, in line with global best practices in environmental conservation.”

These initiatives also aim to raise environmental awareness among various segments of society and encourage individuals and institutions to adopt responsible practices in waste management and recycling. This contributes to reducing carbon emissions and preserving natural resources.

For her part, Sanaa Al-Ghamlas, CEO of Amena, stated: “The partnership includes supporting the fourth edition of the ‘Amena School’ initiative for the 2026–2027 academic year. This initiative is a leading national effort to promote a culture of sustainability among school students by engaging them in awareness programs and practical activities that reinforce the concepts of recycling and environmental conservation.”

Al-Ghamlas added: “The initiative focuses on instilling positive environmental behaviors in students from the early stages of schooling, contributing to the preparation of a generation more aware of the importance of environmental conservation and capable of contributing to achieving a sustainable future. Additionally, the initiative measures its environmental impact by tracking the quantities of plastic collected and assessing the resulting reduction in carbon emissions and preservation of environmental spaces.”

The memorandum of understanding reflects the importance of strategic partnerships between the financial sector and specialized environmental institutions, serving as a model of integration that contributes to launching landmark initiatives with sustainable impact, and supporting the achievement of national goals in sustainability and environmental protection. It further underscores that addressing environmental challenges requires close collaboration across various sectors, thereby enhancing innovation in environmental solutions and encouraging the expansion of community initiatives that yield long-term positive impacts.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to applying the highest standards of governance and transparency in implementing the memorandum of understanding, adhering to all applicable laws and regulations in Kuwait, while maintaining the confidentiality of exchanged information and data. This approach aims to strengthen mutual trust and ensure the continuity of cooperation in line with best institutional practices.

The partnership highlights the commitment of Warba and Amena to contributing to a more sustainable future by supporting initiatives that deliver tangible environmental and social impacts, and by promoting the participation of individuals and institutions in environmental protection. This aligns with the vision of the State of Kuwait to entrench the principles of sustainable development and achieve a balance between economic development and the preservation of natural resources, based on the conviction that investing in the environment is an investment in the future of society and future generations.
