Rome Hosts Lecce

Rome (AFP) – The second round of the Italian football league season concludes today with two matches. The first sees Lecce host Roma at the Via del Mare stadium, with the capital club entering the fixture under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, looking to maintain their strong start after a 4-0 clean-sheet victory over Fiorentina in the opening round. Meanwhile, Lecce, managed by Eusebio Di Francesco, aim to leverage home advantage and crowd support to secure a positive result that will bolster their position following a promising start with a 2-0 win over Venezia in the opening match.

In the second fixture, Bologna travel to Bergamo to face Atalanta.

Atalanta began their league campaign with a 2-1 victory over Sassuolo, while Bologna suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lazio. Meanwhile, Juventus secured their second consecutive league win on Saturday, overcoming visitors Parma 2-0 in the second round.

Manager Luciano Spalletti’s side moved up to six points, recording their second straight victory after a 1-0 win over Frosinone in the opening round.

Conversely, Parma suffered their second consecutive defeat, following an initial 1-0 loss at home to Cagliari in the opening match.

Fiorentina fans, whose club is celebrating its centenary this season (founded in 1926), responded with whistles of disapproval at the end of the first half as their team trailed 2-0.

After the match, Fiorentina manager Fabio Grosso, the 2006 World Cup winner, along with his players who wore shirts in the team’s original red and white colors instead of the traditional purple, turned to salute the supporters, only to be met with a storm of whistles.

This marks Fiorentina’s second defeat, following a 4-0 loss to Roma, leaving them with seven goals conceded and none scored so far. The club comes off a difficult season that ended in a disappointing 15th-place finish, during which their American owner and president, Rocco Commisso, passed away.
