Sofyan Amrabat transfers to Dutch club Ajax

Amsterdam - AFP - Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat joined Eredivisie champions Ajax on a record-breaking 36th contract until 2028, on Sunday, after terminating his deal with Turkish club Fenerbahçe.

Amrabat, 30, who did not start for the Atlas Lions, who were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the North American World Cup, wore the shirt of Spanish club Real Betis on loan last season.

Ajax said in a statement: “The defensive midfielder signed a contract in Amsterdam that takes immediate effect and runs until June 30, 2028.”

He added: “The Moroccan international joins Ajax on a free transfer after reaching an agreement earlier on Saturday with his former club Fenerbahçe to terminate his contract.”

Club manager Jordi Cruyff said: “We are very pleased to sign Sofyan. He is a physically strong player, possesses high technical skills, and has extensive international experience.”
