The U.S. Department of State affirmed that Kuwait is a major non-NATO ally of the United States and a key strategic partner in the Gulf region, emphasizing Washington’s ongoing commitment to the defense partnership with Kuwait and to enhancing its security and military capabilities.
This statement came in response from the U.S. Department of State’s media office to questions posed by "Al-Rai" regarding the level of security cooperation between the two countries, developments in the regional situation, as well as cooperation in cybersecurity, consular services, and visa issuance procedures.
This comes at a time when the region is witnessing rapid security developments, while Washington reaffirms its strategic partnership with Kuwait, particularly in defense and security fields, alongside expanding cooperation in economic, technological, and scientific sectors.
The U.S. State Department noted in its response that “Kuwait is a major non-NATO ally and a key strategic partner in the Gulf,” adding that the defense partnership between the two countries supports Kuwait’s continued modernization of its military capabilities and the enhancement of interoperability and coordination across various areas of military cooperation.
Regarding cooperation in cybersecurity, the U.S. State Department affirmed that Washington and Kuwait maintain a strong bilateral security partnership focused on strengthening the resilience of critical infrastructure against threats, enhancing regional cyber defense capabilities, and addressing shared digital threats.
It pointed out that the partnership between the two countries is not limited to security and defense, but extends to trade, energy, education, science, technology, and cybersecurity, as well as the strong ties between the two peoples.
Regarding visa services for Kuwaiti citizens, including tourist, student, and medical visas, the U.S. Department of State confirmed that the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait currently provides all routine and emergency consular services, and that applicants for visas of all categories can now schedule interview appointments through the online booking system.
The Ministry stressed that the Trump administration is working to protect Americans by applying the highest standards of scrutiny and screening to visa applicants, affirming that “a visa is a privilege, not a right.”
It clarified that each visa application represents a decision related to national security, and that U.S. authorities take the necessary time in every case, anywhere in the world, to ensure that the applicant does not pose a threat to the security and safety of the United States, and has reliably demonstrated eligibility for the requested visa.
In the same context, the U.S. State Department confirmed that the Department continues to provide all forms of consular assistance to Americans in Kuwait, including processing passport issuance and renewal requests.
