400 ships stranded in the Gulf

- 70 attacks on international ships in the Gulf and around Hormuz resulted in the deaths of 19 sailors

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) warned that approximately 400 ships remain stranded in the Gulf, six months after the outbreak of war between the United States and Iran, as thousands of sailors in the region continue to face escalating risks.

IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said in a statement on Friday: “While some ships and their crews have managed to leave the Gulf, around 400 ships carrying approximately 6,000 sailors have been unable to depart safely since the conflict began.”

He added that the organization has documented 70 attacks on international vessels in the Gulf and around the Strait of Hormuz since late February, which resulted in the deaths of 19 sailors.
