Kane confirms negotiations to extend his contract with Bayern

Munich, Germany (AFP) – English striker Harry Kane of Bayern Munich confirmed on Friday that he has begun talks to extend his contract with the German champions beyond 2027.

Speaking to journalists after Bayern’s emphatic 5-1 victory over visitors Stuttgart in the Bundesliga opener, Kane said negotiations on a contract extension had begun, noting, “The first meeting was held last week.”

Kane did not score any of the five goals, while Moroccan Ismaila Sarr made his debut for the club and provided two assists for Alexander Pavlovic and Colombian Luis Diaz.

The 33-year-old forward is among the leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or award for the world’s best player, which will be presented in his hometown of London in October.

Kane said that “many details” still need to be discussed, but he expressed his hope to continue his career with Bayern, whom he joined in 2023 from his childhood club, Tottenham.

He added: “I am 33 years old. This may not be my last contract. But it is an important one for me to sign. They need to make sure I am happy. And of course, they need to make sure they are happy too... There is no rush from either side.”

Bayern has repeatedly affirmed its desire to keep Kane, noting that his current contract expires at the end of this season.

The first round of the Bundesliga continues today with two matches: Freiburg versus Werder Bremen, and Augsburg versus Schalke.
