Marquinhos Praises PSG's 'Mindset'

Paris - AFP - Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos, who scored the equalizer in the dying moments against Lille (2-2) on Friday in the opening match of the second phase of the French football league, insisted that “it is never over” for his side, referring to his team’s ability to come back in the scoreline until the final moments.

The Brazilian defender headed in his goal in the last attack of the match (90+5), capping a comeback that seemed unlikely just minutes earlier, after it had been initiated by Portuguese midfielder Vitinha (90+1). This comeback was less dramatic than the one the team achieved against Rennes last week (2-2).

The Brazilian said: “This explains a lot. The positive aspect is always the mentality. Being able to snatch a result when we are behind is very good for the rest of the season. In tough matches, we fight until the end, and the players coming on from the bench give us extra energy, allowing us to score goals.” Paris Saint-Germain avoided defeat but remains without a win in domestic competition this season, having lost to Lens in the Super Cup match (0-1) prior to these two draws.

Marquinhos added: “This also shows that we are not at 100 percent readiness. We are aware of that and will work to improve as soon as possible.”

His coach, Luis Enrique, did not appear concerned about this unusual run for the two-time European champions, which consists of three consecutive matches without a victory.

He said: “At this stage of the season, it would be very dangerous to be at 100 percent readiness.”

Meanwhile, Olympique Marseille protested against a decision by authorities in the Principality of Monaco to prevent its fans from traveling to attend the team’s match against Monaco, scheduled for today.

Also playing today are Rennes against Le Mans, and Nice hosting Paris FC.
