UEFA takes its fight with Infantino to court after lifting the boycott

UEFA stated that it had received written assurances confirming that the proposal put forward by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, which included selling a stake in future editions of the World Cup to investors, had been “withdrawn irrevocably.”

UEFA said, “After receiving the two guarantees we requested from FIFA on July 30, and after consulting with its member national associations, UEFA has agreed to temporarily suspend the withdrawal of European teams from FIFA competitions next season.”

Nevertheless, UEFA clarified that the broader governance crisis within FIFA remains unresolved, noting that European football officials had unanimously authorized the continental confederation to pursue “all available institutional, political, and legal avenues” to implement reforms and reinstate restrictions on the president’s powers.

UEFA also called for an “independent external review” of the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, which FIFA had retracted, stating, “FIFA cannot conduct an audit of itself and simply expect the football community to accept its findings.”
