Report: Iran executed more than 500 people in 2026

Iran has executed more than 500 people since the beginning of the current year, according to the Human Rights in Iran organization, following a wave of executions carried out in recent days, while Trump urged Tehran to halt the implementation of death sentences.

The Norway-based organization stated that at least 511 people have been executed since the start of 2026, 29 of them in connection with the anti-government protests that took place in the country last January.

Among those executed were 16 women and at least 13 political prisoners linked to banned opposition groups, according to the same source.

The organization confirmed that hundreds of other protesters have been sentenced to death or face charges that could lead to this penalty, including more than 70 in the city of Isfahan, which witnessed widespread protests in January.

According to Amnesty International, Iran carried out at least 2,159 executions during 2025, and it appears that authorities are intensifying the implementation of death sentences against protesters and prisoners of conscience.
