Egypt targets 30 million tourists
Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy stated that the strategic objective of Egypt’s updated national tourism strategy is to attract 30 million tourists in the near future, a target that is subject to periodic evaluation and review every six months based on the capacity of Egyptian hotels and airports.
He added in televised remarks that Egypt’s unparalleled tourism diversity has directly contributed to extending the average tourist stay to 10 nights, a rate that exceeds global averages.
Meanwhile, at the fifth session of the Arab-Brazilian Economic Forum, held in São Paulo under the theme “The Global Economy in Transition,” Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rustom presented the key points of a new economic agenda, emphasizing Egypt’s ability to play a strategic hub role and serve as a logistical bridge connecting Latin America with Arab and African markets.
For his part, Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Italian energy company Eni, who met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi last Tuesday, said the company’s investments in Egypt amount to $8.5 billion, and that its plan includes drilling 30 exploration wells and 200 development wells in the coming phase.
On another front, Bloomberg reported that Huawei Technologies submitted a proposal to the Egyptian government to build artificial intelligence data centers intended for military, surveillance, and other government uses, a move highlighting the company’s global ambitions in the chip market and raising concerns in Washington, where officials are working on a competing offer. Huawei, the largest Chinese competitor to Nvidia, responded to a tender issued by Cairo by proposing to export 1,408 of its latest advanced Ascend 950 chips to create a cloud infrastructure for training AI models. The offer also includes an additional 600 chips, either from the same series or from the older 910B model, to operate two inference clusters used to run AI models after training. According to the documents, Huawei outlined a 12-month plan to build the project’s infrastructure.
