Energy bills in Britain jump to highest level since 2024

British households are expected to see an increase in energy costs next October due to rising gas and electricity prices driven by the conflict in the Middle East, which will exacerbate inflationary pressures on the economy, according to Al Arabiya.

Bloomberg reported that the UK’s gas and electricity markets authority, Ofgem, said in a statement that the price cap, which sets the maximum amount most suppliers can charge consumers, will rise by 4% to £1,723 ($2,349) starting October 1.

This increase will further strain households as winter approaches, a period when energy consumption typically rises. Domestic energy debt has already reached £6 billion so far this year and is projected to hit £7 billion by the end of December.
