The Lawyers Law... Before the End of the Year

Justice Minister and Legal Advisor Nasser Al-Sumait confirmed that the Law Regulating the Legal Profession will be issued before the end of the current year, more than six decades after the enactment of the existing law. He noted that the anticipated law will represent a qualitative leap in regulating the profession and enhancing its role as a fundamental pillar of the justice system.

Al-Sumait stated in an interview with “Al-Rai” that the Ministry of Justice is working to complete a comprehensive legislative review of the legal profession framework, in light of the broad developments witnessed in legal and judicial work over the past decades. This update is necessary to modernize the regulatory framework governing the profession, aligning it with current realities and the requirements of the coming stage.

He added that the Law Regulating the Legal Profession is part of an integrated legislative plan undertaken by the Ministry of Justice to update laws related to the justice system. He emphasized that developing the profession constitutes an essential part of the comprehensive reform process, given the lawyer’s role in protecting rights, strengthening defense guarantees, and contributing to the proper administration of justice.

Al-Sumait stressed that the Ministry is proceeding with finalizing the draft law according to the scheduled timeline, paving the way for taking the necessary measures to issue it before the end of the current year. He affirmed that updating the legislation governing all components of the justice system remains a priority during the current stage.
