Ethiopia submits its bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations

Ethiopia has officially submitted its bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, a move that could grant it the honor of organizing the tournament for the first time in more than half a century.

The federation added that this bid “meets all requirements and reaffirms that the country is fully prepared to host the largest football event in Africa.”

The national team of the Horn of Africa nation, which is the continent’s second most populous with approximately 130 million people, currently ranks 143rd out of 211 in the FIFA rankings.

Their last appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations was in the 2021 edition held in Cameroon, where they were eliminated in the group stage.

Ethiopia last hosted the continental tournament in 1976, when Morocco won the title.
