Art has long been an integral part of the Waldorf Astoria Kuwait experience, evident throughout the hotel in its carefully curated collection, architectural details, and the exceptional craftsmanship that defines its design.
Building on this legacy, the hotel is preparing to launch a three-month exhibition celebrating creative talents in Kuwait and the region, featuring a select group of local and regional artists.
Running from September to November 2026, the hotel’s main lobby will transform into a vibrant space where elements of cultural heritage converge with craftsmanship and contemporary expression. The exhibition brings together four prominent artists from diverse disciplines, including wood carving, glass forming, contemporary Arabic calligraphy, and filigree, each presenting distinctive pieces that resonate with the identity and spirit of Waldorf Astoria Kuwait.
Commenting on the cultural initiative, Hotel General Manager Saleh Al-Bataineh said, “We believe that luxury hospitality extends beyond providing exceptional service; it involves building meaningful connections and contributing to enriching the communities in which we operate. Given my passion and deep appreciation for art, I am particularly delighted to see this initiative come to life, and I am confident it will create a unique space that celebrates creativity and opens new horizons for expression and cultural dialogue.”
He added, “Art has always been an authentic part of our identity. Through this event, we are proud to provide a platform for local and regional talents to share their visions and stories, inspiring our guests. We look forward to this experience offering every visitor a new perspective and a deeper appreciation for the wealth of talent and creativity that Kuwait and the region possess.”
The exhibition features artist Yahya Jarrah, founder of “Khashbati,” known for his hand-carved sculptures made from reclaimed and aged wood, some of which dates back centuries. Drawing inspiration from natural forms and traditional crafts, Jarrah transforms rare materials into sculptures that preserve the spirit and history of wood. Specifically for Waldorf Astoria Kuwait, he presents “The Final Beginning,” a work comprising three sculptures crafted from teak wood sourced from trunks over 150 years old, inspired by the shape of the traditional mabkhara (incense burner), embodying the deep-rooted relationship between nature, heritage, and craftsmanship.
For his part, artist Mohammed Al-Duwaisan, founder of the “Gizaz Art Academy,” adds a different dimension by blending Italian glassmaking techniques with Arabic narratives and Kuwaiti landscapes. Al-Duwaisan is a pioneer in glass sculpture in the region and has previously represented Kuwait at several international forums, including Expo Dubai and the Diriyah Biennale. During his participation, he unveils his collection “Waldorf Astoria Daza,” a handmade borosilicate glass marionette collection featuring mirrors, incense burners, and occasion accessories, reinterpreting elements of Kuwaiti heritage through a modern lens.
The exhibition also highlights the creations of Abeer Jawaid, specializing in contemporary Arabic calligraphy. She reimagines this ancient art form with a vision characterized by simplicity and elegance, combining spiritually significant texts with harmonious textures and colors, creating a dialogue between authenticity and modern design. Jawaid presents a large-scale piece exclusively for the hotel, consisting of three panels featuring Surah Al-Ikhlas, Salawat upon the Prophet (PBUH), and Ayat Al-Kursi, offering a contemplative treatment of Islamic calligraphy.
The list of participants is completed by artist and entrepreneur Maisam Qasim, whose thread-based creations draw inspiration from the heritage of the Gulf region and the traditional craft of Sadu. By combining wood, leather, nails, and textiles, Qasim reinterprets inherited techniques within contemporary designs that reflect the cultural identity of the region. Throughout November, she will create a special piece on-site for exhibition visitors, inspired by a historical Kuwaiti quarter-dinar banknote, allowing guests to witness its creation process and see one of Kuwait’s iconic symbols of memory transformed into a contemporary artistic vision.
The exhibition underscores The Waldorf Astoria Kuwait’s deep commitment to art and design since its inception. The hotel’s parent company has developed a vision that positions the property as a living canvas, where contemporary design harmoniously converges with creative expression. Today, its public spaces, distinctive suites, and restaurants house a permanent, museum-quality collection featuring works by local, regional, and international artists.
