Abdul-Aati stresses the "necessity of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions"
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barro held a telephone conversation on Monday to discuss “visions and assessments regarding the rapid developments unfolding in the region.” They stressed the “necessity of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions, working to halt escalation and contain rising tensions, thereby preventing the conflict from widening and the region from sliding into a broader cycle of instability.”
Abdelatty emphasized “the importance of returning to the negotiation track between the United States and Iran, and resuming the implementation of the memorandum of understanding, as it serves as a framework that can be built upon to reduce tensions and create conditions for reaching more comprehensive and sustainable agreements.” He noted that “diplomatic solutions remain the optimal means for resolving disputes and preserving the security and stability of the region.”
He also stressed “the necessity of adhering to the implementation of the first and second phases of President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, as it represents a proposed framework for ending the conflict and achieving stability,” underscoring “the importance of Israel fulfilling its obligations and halting actions that undermine peace prospects, including settlement expansion.”
The two ministers affirmed the importance of supporting stability in Syria and preserving its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, enabling it to assume its responsibilities and maintain the country’s security and stability.
They agreed to continue coordination and consultation in the coming period, given the important roles played by Egypt and France in supporting regional stability and advancing the resolution of crises through political and diplomatic means, which contributes to enhancing security and peace in the region.
The Egyptian minister stressed “the need to intensify regional and international efforts aimed at supporting political and diplomatic solutions to crises, thereby contributing to enhanced security and stability in the African continent.”
Abdelatty and Paulos also discussed recent developments in Sudan and the efforts made to halt escalation, as well as developments in the Horn of Africa region. The Foreign Minister stressed “the necessity of respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the countries in the region, and refraining from any unilateral moves that could threaten regional peace and security or seek to impose maritime access by force, in violation of international law.”
He noted Egypt’s participation in the second summit of troop-contributing countries to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), emphasizing the importance of providing the necessary funding and support to enable the mission to carry out its mandate and preserve the gains achieved over the past years in the field of security and stability in Somalia, thereby safeguarding the interests of regional countries and preventing the resurgence of security and terrorist threats.
