Indicators of drug control during the first half of this year revealed a notable shift in the trajectory of the fight against smuggling and trafficking. Seized drug quantities fell by 68 percent, and psychoactive substances by 75 percent, compared to the same period in 2025, alongside a decline in cases and suspects. These results reflect the impact of tightening the legal framework and intensifying proactive strikes to dry up the sources of toxicity before they reach the markets.
These outcomes are underpinned by intensive security efforts, directed by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, and closely monitored by Director General of the General Administration for Combating Narcotics Brigadier General Mohammed Qabazard and his deputy, Brigadier General Sheikh Hamad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah. Meanwhile, anti-drug officers continued to monitor smuggling routes and track shipments from their origin abroad, through transit stations, until they reached their final destinations, relying on local and international cooperation that contributed to dismantling numerous traffickers and distributors before drugs could be dispersed.
In a comparison conducted by Al-Rai based on official statistics from the Administration, the quantity of seized drugs decreased from 1,025 kilograms in the first half of 2025 to 327 kilograms in the same period this year. Psychoactive substances dropped from 2.014 million pills to approximately 656,000. The number of cases fell by 16 percent, from 1,451 to 1,228, while the number of suspects decreased by 14 percent, from 1,864 to 1,604.
The results for the first half included the seizure of 327 kilograms of various drugs, 17 liters of liquid narcotics, and 656,401 psychoactive pills. Hashish topped the seizures at approximately 189 kilograms, followed by marijuana at over 60 kilograms, and methamphetamine (Shabu) at around 36 kilograms.
The confrontation extended to the preventive side, through awareness campaigns and cooperation with relevant authorities and civil society organizations to warn of the dangers of drugs and the methods traffickers use to target youth. Additionally, authorities handled family reports on addiction cases with confidentiality, directing them to treatment and rehabilitation centers.
