Firas Al-Khatib Appointed Coach of Kuwait

Al-Kuwait Club officially announced the appointment of Syrian coach Feras Al-Khatib to lead the first team for the upcoming season, succeeding Portuguese manager Alexandre Santos, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The decision to hire Al-Khatib came days after the club severed ties with Santos, who had overseen the pre-season preparations, including a training camp in England and a series of friendly matches.

The club stated on its official social media account that it wished Santos success in his next chapter, while Al-Khatib will take charge of the team during the final phase of preparations before the season begins.

Al-Kuwait’s management opted not to continue with Santos, as they were not fully convinced of his ability to lead the team in the new season, during which the “Whites” will compete in several domestic and continental fixtures, including a campaign to defend their league title.

The former Syrian striker is considered one of the most prolific scorers to have played in the Kuwaiti Premier League, having left a clear mark with his goal-scoring prowess and experience in local competitions.

Al-Kuwait begins their Premier League campaign on the 25th with a match against Al-Arabi in the opening round. The club also participates in the AFC Champions League Two this season.

The Kuwaiti Premier League returns this season to a full league format featuring 12 teams, with competitions running until May 30 next year.

Al-Kuwait, the league champions last season, hopes that the appointment of Al-Khatib will help maintain team stability and continue their challenge for titles.
