Milan in Black Armband Meets Turin

Milan, who finished fifth last season, will kick off their new campaign with an away match against Torino on Sunday in the opening round of the Italian Serie A, while Juventus begin their quest to reclaim the title with a trip to Frosinone.

According to the Lombard club, Milan players will wear a commemorative badge on their shirts throughout the 2026-2027 season in honor of the memory of former captain Franco Baresi, who passed away last month.

Baresi, the legendary captain of Milan during the 1980s and 1990s, died on July 31 at the age of 66.

As has been the trend in recent years, Milan is attempting another overhaul by changing its manager, this time by appointing Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, alongside restructuring its sporting management. The club also spent 74 million euros ($86 million) to sign Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos from French club Paris Saint-Germain.

Juventus, which finished sixth last season, 18 points behind Inter, also has Champions League qualification as a primary goal, aiming to improve its precarious financial situation despite ongoing support from the Agnelli family.

Italy’s most decorated club, whose last of 36 titles dates back to 2020, has carried out a wide-ranging internal cleanup. It dismissed French general manager Damien Comolli after just one year, parted ways with Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic, who earned the highest salary in Serie A, and shed some disappointing signings from last summer.

Nevertheless, the club spent more than 40 million euros ($47 million) to sign French forward Randal Kolo Muani.
