Women’s Housing Authority Distributes 330 Rented Housing Units

- Bibi Al-Yousef:

- No coercion for Kuwaiti women to reside in Sulaybiyah or Taima’

- Approximately 2,000 housing units distributed by the committee to Kuwaiti women since its inception two years ago

- Three-month deadline for Kuwaiti women to update their housing data

- Housing applications remain valid for those who decline rented housing

- New projects scheduled for 2028

Sheikhah Bibi Al-Yousef, Chairperson of the Women’s Housing Committee at the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, announced the committee’s success in distributing approximately 2,000 housing requests from the rented housing category to Kuwaiti women since its establishment two years ago. She noted that today’s Thursday draw was the largest to date, covering 330 requests.

Speaking on the sidelines of the draw for Kuwaiti women holding rented housing applications, conducted by the Women’s Housing Committee at the Authority’s theater yesterday, Al-Yousef stated that the committee focused on divorced women, widows, women with disabilities, and those with low incomes to prioritize the most needy cases. She explained that distributions have now reached applications submitted in 2017.

Al-Yousef added that the Authority extended the residency period for women from two months to three months, starting from the date of receiving the house number, in response to requests from several women for more time to make their decision.

She clarified that a woman who does not wish to accept the housing unit may decline it in favor of another woman, while her housing application remains active. She emphasized that the Authority does not compel women to reside in the Sulaybiyah or Taima’ areas, as the declaration form offers two clear options: “I wish” or “I do not wish.”

She noted that women who decline rented housing may wait for new housing projects expected to be implemented by 2028, affirming that the committee’s ambition is to ensure every needy Kuwaiti woman receives suitable housing.

Al-Yousef stressed the importance of Kuwaiti women updating their housing data, pointing out that some applications have not been updated since the 1980s, which complicates the Authority’s ability to determine the actual number of eligible beneficiaries and plan future housing construction.

She stated that the Authority has provided a data update service via the “Sahl” application for three months, following announcements published on the Authority’s website, media outlets, social media, and television. She confirmed that applications not updated within the specified period will be canceled, aiming to identify serious and active applicants.

Al-Yousef urged Kuwaiti women to rely on official sources for information and to disregard unverified rumors circulating through unofficial channels.
