After the dust... humidity

KUNA – With dust dominating the skies yesterday and today, the Meteorology Department forecast that the country’s weather over the weekend will be extremely hot during the day, hot to warm at night, and relatively humid in coastal areas. Meanwhile, the Al-Ajiree Scientific Center stated that the break in the heat and a drop in temperatures will begin on August 24, coinciding with the “Suhail” season, which lasts 52 days and ends on October 14 next year.

For his part, Acting Director of the Meteorology Department, Dassar Al-Ali, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the weather tomorrow, Friday, will be hot, with winds shifting from northwesterly to variable directions, light to moderate in speed. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius.

He added that Friday night will be hot to warm and relatively humid in coastal areas, with light to moderate northwesterly winds. Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Regarding Saturday’s daytime weather, Al-Ali said it will be extremely hot and relatively humid in coastal areas, with light to moderate northwesterly to variable winds, and some high clouds appearing. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius.

He noted that Saturday night will be hot to warm and relatively humid in coastal areas, with scattered clouds appearing. Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius.

For his part, the Al-Ajiree Scientific Center stated in a press release that Kuwait will witness noticeable changes in temperatures with the rising of “Suhail,” with optimism for rain as humidity levels rise, as the “Kaleebin” season enters its final days.

It predicted that temperatures during the “Suhail” season will drop below 50 degrees Celsius, with the weather becoming milder at night and humidity levels remaining high, especially in coastal areas.

It clarified that the most prominent signs of the rising of “Suhail” include cooler weather, the break in the heat, and the blowing of southeast winds that mitigate the hot “Samum” winds, making the air more humid, the earth calm down, and its temperature decrease.

It pointed out the appearance of some leafy plants, along with longer shadows and morning dew, noting that water and air cool slightly, while the sun tilts toward the south after being nearly vertical during the summer season. Additionally, the length of the day decreases while the night lengthens.

The Center indicated that the star “Suhail” can be seen in Kuwait’s sky starting from September 4, 2026, according to documentation by a group of Kuwaiti astronomers who have observed it at dawn at this time every year.
