Al-Hajj: Kuwaiti-Algerian interest in developing economic and investment relations

The Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Omar Belhadj, affirmed the depth and resilience of Kuwaiti-Algerian relations, describing them as historic, deeply rooted, and based on solid foundations of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual respect. He praised the honorable historical stances taken by the State of Kuwait, both its leadership and people, alongside Algeria during the glorious War of Liberation, as well as the support and assistance provided to the Algerian cause throughout the various stages of the struggle for independence.

This statement was made by Ambassador Belhadj in a speech delivered today, Thursday, during the Algerian Embassy’s celebration of Mujahid Day, which falls on August 20 of each year, in the presence of members of the Algerian community.

Belhadj stressed that relations between Kuwait and Algeria are witnessing continuous development, driven by a shared commitment from the leaderships of both countries to strengthen and elevate ties across various fields, reflecting the nature of the historic and fraternal bonds uniting the two brotherly peoples.

He revealed that he recently met with the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Arab Affairs of Kuwait, during which several files and issues of mutual interest were discussed, and the state of bilateral relations and ways to advance cooperation and coordination were reviewed.

He added that the meeting also addressed the Kuwaiti-Algerian Joint Committee, emphasizing the importance of holding its meetings in the coming period, as it constitutes one of the main mechanisms for enhancing cooperation between the two countries and following up on various bilateral cooperation files. He noted that the upcoming committee meetings will be chaired by the finance ministers of both countries, reflecting a shared interest in developing economic, investment, and trade relations, and opening new fields of cooperation to serve the interests of both nations.

The Algerian Ambassador pointed out that the two countries are also discussing the imminent opening of a direct air route between their capitals, Kuwait and Algiers, considering that launching this route will represent an important step in strengthening communication between the two peoples and facilitating the movement of citizens, businessmen, investors, and tourists.

Belhadj praised the State of Kuwait, its leadership, government, and people, for the care and hospitality extended to the Algerian community, describing Kuwait as a brotherly and hospitable country, and affirming that members of the community are respected and honored in Kuwaiti society.

He called on members of the Algerian community to comply with the laws and regulations in force in the State of Kuwait and to respect local customs and traditions, emphasizing that every Algerian residing in Kuwait represents his country, and therefore should be the best ambassador for Algeria, reflecting the honorable image of the Algerian people.

Regarding Mujahid Day, Ambassador Belhadj stated that commemorating this national occasion represents a crucial milestone in Algeria’s history and its liberation war, due to its remembrance of the sacrifices made by the Mujahideen and martyrs who gave their lives to liberate the homeland and restore national sovereignty.

He clarified that the August 20 anniversary is linked to two prominent events in the course of the Algerian Revolution: the first is the Battle of Constantine North, which took place on August 20, 1955, and marked a significant turning point in the revolution’s trajectory. It contributed to expanding the scope of armed struggle and conveying the voice of the Algerian Revolution both domestically and internationally, as well as drawing the attention of the international community to the justice of the Algerian cause.
