5 Measures to Protect Children from Drowning and Enhance Safety While Swimming

The General Fireforce has urged parents to exercise the utmost caution and vigilance to protect children from the dangers of drowning, emphasizing the importance of continuous supervision and not leaving children unattended near bodies of water.

Mohammed Al-Gharib, Director of Public Relations at the General Fireforce, told Al-Rai that it is essential to teach children basic swimming skills, keep them under constant supervision while swimming, and ensure they wear life jackets, especially when engaging in activities in open water.

Al-Gharib added that parents should monitor weather conditions and water states before swimming to avoid risks associated with changing weather or rough waters. He stressed the importance of parents being familiar with first aid principles for drowning incidents, as well as avoiding distractions such as phone use or other interruptions while supervising children during swimming, noting that quick awareness and intervention can be a decisive factor in saving a child’s life.

These guidelines come as part of the Fireforce’s efforts to raise awareness about safety procedures and prevent drowning incidents, reaffirming that direct and continuous supervision of children represents the first line of defense in protecting them from drowning hazards.
