Egypt and Qatar... Signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding to enhance cooperation

Egypt and Qatar signed a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding today, Thursday, to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of regulatory oversight, development, health, and customs, at the conclusion of the seventh session of the Supreme Joint Committee held in Alamein.
Foreign Minister Bader Abdel Aty signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and the Qatar Fund for Development with Qatari Minister of State for International Cooperation Affairs Mariam bint Ali Al-Misnad.
He also signed a grant agreement with Fahad Al-Sulaiti, Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development, regarding the establishment of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Hospital in Sohag Governorate. Additionally, he signed the minutes of the seventh session of the Egypt-Qatar Supreme Joint Committee with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
An agreement on mutual administrative assistance in the customs field was also signed by Egyptian Finance Minister Ahmed Kouch and his Qatari counterpart Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari.
During the committee sessions, Abdel Aty emphasized the importance of building on the momentum characterizing bilateral relations, pointing to the rapid development of the economic partnership between the two countries and an 80 percent increase in trade volume during 2025.
He expressed Egypt’s aspiration to double trade and investment rates and expand partnerships between the business communities of both countries, reaffirming Cairo’s openness to receiving further Qatari investments.
He highlighted prominent Qatari projects and investments in Egypt, including the “Rome’s Land” project to develop approximately 4,900 feddans in the Samla and Rome’s Land areas in the Northern Coast of Matrouh Governorate, as well as a sustainable jet fuel manufacturing project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, with direct Qatari investments exceeding $200 million in its first phase.
The committee sessions also addressed the enhancement of cooperation in the fields of energy, health, investment, trade, and consular affairs, alongside discussions on various regional and international issues of common interest.
On the regional front, Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any scenarios aimed at displacing Palestinians from their land, whether from the Gaza Strip or the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
For his part, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman affirmed his country’s commitment to continuing to build on the momentum of bilateral relations, enhancing economic and investment cooperation, and increasing trade volume to achieve shared interests.
He stressed the importance of holding the seventh session of the Supreme Joint Committee as a vital mechanism for monitoring areas of cooperation and advancing the implementation of joint projects and agreements, expressing his country’s aspiration to continue close coordination and consultation with Egypt on various regional and international issues of common interest.
