Hind Al-Balushi to Al-Rai: “Master’s Degree”... An Important Milestone in My Journey

Artist Hind Al-Balushi expressed her joy and pride at earning a master’s degree with “excellent” honors from the Cairo Academy of Arts. She told Al-Rai that she dedicates this academic achievement to her husband, children, family, and all her supporters who stood by and encouraged her throughout her career.

She described this milestone as a significant step in her artistic and academic journey, and as motivation to continue her research and development.

Al-Balushi obtained her master’s degree through her thesis titled “The Social Contract and Horizons of Reception in Contemporary Kuwaiti Theater, 1970–2000.” The study examined an important aspect of Kuwaiti theater’s evolution and its transformations over three decades.

The research focused on the social and cultural shifts experienced by Kuwaiti theater between 1970 and 2000, exploring the impact of political and social changes on the relationship between theatrical performances and audiences. It also tracked the development of reception mechanisms among Arab and Gulf audiences, highlighting the changes and reflections these underwent amid broader societal transformations.

The thesis defense was attended by academic and artistic figures. The examination committee included Dr. Ahmed Mujahid, a full professor of literary criticism at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, and former president of the General Authority for Books, who served as the external examiner, and Dr. Shawki Al-Masri, professor of literary criticism and dean of the Higher Institute of Artistic Criticism at the Academy of Arts in Alexandria, who served as the internal examiner.
