Abdulaziz Safar: The Qatari audience is intelligent, perceptive, and appreciative of Kuwaiti art
The creative team behind the social comedy play “The Engineer of Public Taste” continues its performances at the Al-Muhallab Complex Theater, following the play’s great success and notable public turnout. The production is led by a group of the brightest comedy stars, including Khaled Al-Mutairi, Khaled Al-Ajireb, Eman Faisal, Abdullah Al-Humaidi, Mohammed Safar, Ahmed Al-Mutairi, and Salman Kaid, alongside a number of other artists.
The production team is preparing to travel to Qatar to present the play at the Drama Theater in Katara, organized and sponsored by Tathkar for Artistic Production, starting on September 14.
In this context, author and director Abdulaziz Safar told “Al-Rai”: “To be honest, we feel happy and enjoy presenting our theatrical performances in Qatar, especially since the Qatari audience is intelligent, perceptive, and appreciative of Kuwaiti art. They engage with the topics we present on stage, as we have observed in our previous plays. This has fostered a mutual familiarity between us and the audience, to the point that they sometimes request additional performances, forcing us to increase the number of shows.”
He added, “We are eager to meet the Qatari audience again through the presentation of ‘The Engineer of Public Taste’ on September 14, organized by Tathkar for Artistic Production, under the chairmanship of Sheikh Faisal Al-Thani. They have stood by us since the beginning, supporting and backing us for many years, specifically since our plays ‘Meeting with His Excellency,’ ‘The Respectables,’ ‘The First of Its Kind,’ and also ‘King of the Stage.’”
He noted that “The Engineer of Public Taste” is a continuation of a series of works that have united him with artist Khaled Al-Mutairi, explaining that it is a social play dealing with the idea of a new birth and how the mother and father think about shaping their child’s future, each according to their own perspective and thinking.
He said, “From the moment the child is in the mother’s womb, the father and mother begin choosing his name, profession, and planning his future. Meanwhile, the wife experiences various psychological changes and conditions during pregnancy, and the husband is required to understand his wife’s state, stay close to her, especially during this stage, and deal with the changes and life pressures she faces. This leads to humorous situations and comedic ironies.”
