US Treasury Secretary: Sanctions on Iran Will Lead to the Collapse of the Regime

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that the Trump administration’s move to tighten economic sanctions on Iran aims to “push the regime in Tehran toward collapse.”

In an interview with CNBC, Bessent stated that the economic war Trump has threatened Iran with “will be successful, and we will push this regime into collapse... This will be the greatest coordinated economic isolation in world history.”

He added that “the plan to escalate economic sanctions on Iran reduces the likelihood of the United States resorting to intensive military operations.” He said, “If we apply maximum economic pressure, it most likely means there will be no return to large-scale military operations, but I emphasize that this applies only at the present time.”
