After 10 years.. 'Baby Shark' star returns to the spotlight with a 'K-pop' song

Park Joon-hyung, who rose to fame as a young child in the “Baby Shark Dance” video, the most-watched on YouTube in history, released his first K-pop solo single on Thursday, nearly a decade after his initial burst of global stardom.

Park, who appeared in the video at the age of seven, will launch his K-pop solo career under the stage name “Baby Shark Boy,” backed by Pinkfong, the company that owns the rights to the “Baby Shark” song.

Park said, “The ‘Baby Shark’ dance brought joy to people around the world, and I am very grateful that many people still remember me after ten years. That has motivated me to return and reconnect with people through music once again.”

The hit song, which revolves around a family of sharks, was released in 2016. Since then, the video has amassed more than 17.2 billion views.

Since the video’s viral spread, Park has participated in other projects and programs produced by Pinkfong. He noted that his new single, titled “Wave,” begins with the familiar melody of “Baby Shark” before transitioning into electro-pop rhythms, and added that he contributed to writing its lyrics.
