Mongolia bans use of social media in schools

Mongolian Minister of Education and Science Luvshantserin Enkh-Amgalan announced yesterday that the country will ban the use of all social media platforms in schools starting from the 2026–2027 academic year.
Enkh-Amgalan stated that a decision has been made to prohibit social media groups or chat pages that include parents, teachers, and students, effective from the upcoming academic year, in order to ensure students’ online safety and reduce their reliance on screens.
Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are among the most widely used social media networks in Mongolia. It was common for teachers to communicate with students and their parents through Facebook chat groups and to post homework assignments in those groups.
