US Debt Surpasses $40 Trillion

The United States’ total public debt has surpassed $40 trillion, a threshold crossed at a faster pace than expected, according to government data.

The Congressional Budget Office had previously projected in its forecasts that total borrowing would reach $39.4 trillion by the end of fiscal year 2026.
