Nissan Formula E Team Launches Event... 'The Nismo Bit'

- An experience inspired by Japanese street car culture of the 1990s
With the Formula E championship returning to Japan for the third consecutive season, the iconic Japanese car culture of the 1990s is regaining its luster during the Tokyo ePrix. Abdulmohsen Abdulaziz Al-Babtain Company, Nissan’s exclusive distributor in Kuwait, announced via Nissan Global the launch of the “Nissan Formula E” team’s “The Nismo Beat” event. This one-night-only activation welcomed fans on July 25.
Inspired by the golden age of Japanese street car culture, when car enthusiasts gathered to celebrate community spirit, identity, and craftsmanship, “The Nismo Beat” aims to revive this tradition for a new generation of fans through an immersive experience that honors Nissan’s storied legacy in motorsport.
Visitors had the opportunity to view a collection of iconic Nissan performance vehicles from the Nissan Heritage Collection, savor food inspired by classic diner atmospheres, and enjoy live performances by DJs. This unique experience brought to life the sights, sounds, and spirit of local car culture, transporting the distinctive ambiance of legendary meet-ups to the heart of Japan’s capital.
In collaboration with the Tokyo-based automotive network “NowhereToGo,” the event showcased a selection of modified Nissan road-legal vehicles, highlighting the creativity and individuality that continue to shape the automotive world.
The current Nissan Formula E GEN3 Evo car was also displayed, featuring a special, unique exterior design inspired by Nismo, created exclusively for the race weekend at Nissan’s home circuit. The design echoes the iconic color scheme of Nissan’s high-performance road-going Nismo models, combining gray and black with signature red accents, while preserving the cherry blossom motifs that are a distinctive visual feature of the team. Visitors had the chance to view this unique livery up close as part of the broader celebration of Nismo’s heritage.
To bring the experience to life, the Nissan Formula E team collaborated with renowned designer Kenichi Minami, whose nostalgic artworks rooted in Japanese aesthetics have garnered a wide global following. His distinctive style transformed “The Nismo Beat” into a visual tribute celebrating Nissan’s influence on automotive trends.
Minami expressed his pride in being the creative force behind the experience, stating, “It was a true honor to be part of this project with the (Nissan Formula E) team. What excited me most was the challenge of translating the speed and futuristic essence of Formula E and Nismo culture into a logo and visual identity. The red taillights of the Nissan Formula E car and the image of horizontally extended light were major sources of inspiration for the design. I felt this direction aligned perfectly with the sense of speed and the electric car atmosphere that Formula E offers. I am confident that the event will be an unforgettable experience in Tokyo, and I am proud to be a part of it.”
“The Nismo Beat” is more than just a fan zone; it was designed as a tribute to the communities that have helped shape Japanese car culture. The event evokes memories of the era of nighttime meet-ups, when modified cars lined streets illuminated by neon lights, and friendships were forged among people united by a shared passion for performance.
