Sisi and Haftar discuss stability in Libya and support for peace and security in the region

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Libya’s security and stability, its backing of initiatives in this regard, and its commitment to achieving security, development, and prosperity in Libya, while ensuring its unity and territorial integrity.
The Presidency stated in a statement on Wednesday that el-Sisi reiterated to Libyan National Army Commander Khalifa Haftar “Egypt’s position, which is based on the necessity of preserving Libya’s unity and working to unify its institutions, and to hold parliamentary and presidential elections.”
He also emphasized the depth of relations between the two countries, pointing to “the importance of strengthening shared historical ties.”
For his part, Haftar appreciated “the significant efforts Egypt is making to support peace, security, and stability in the region in general, and in Libya in particular.”
He affirmed his support “for initiatives aimed at achieving security and stability in Libya and preserving its unity,” noting “his commitment to continuing coordination with Egypt to address various common challenges and to achieve comprehensive development in Libya.”
On another note, Egypt condemned the Israeli air raids that targeted the Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria’s Idlib province. It stressed “the necessity for the international community to assume its responsibilities in putting an end to repeated Israeli violations and halting the policy of imposing facts on the ground by force.”
For his part, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy accused Tel Aviv “of seeking to spread chaos and expand the arenas of conflict and confrontation, whether in Syria or Lebanon, to serve the domestic objectives of its Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu), who is striving to achieve political and electoral gains at the expense of security and stability in the region.”
