Three-way race for the Premier League spot

Three-way race for the Premier League spot

Al-Salibikhaat, Al-Yarmouk, and Al-Jazira are competing for the second and final promotion spot to the Kuwaiti Premier League in the final round of the Zain League First Division tomorrow, Thursday.

Having already secured promotion with 44 points, league leaders Al-Sahel will aim to clinch their fourth title in the club’s history when they face Al-Yarmouk at 8:10 PM. Al-Yarmouk, in turn, is striving to secure the second promotion berth.

The hopes of “Ibn Musharraf” (Al-Yarmouk) suffered a major blow after their 2-0 defeat to Al-Jazira in the previous round, leaving them with 40 points. Consequently, a victory tomorrow is not enough on its own to guarantee promotion; it will depend on the outcome of the match between Al-Salibikhaat and Al-Jazira, which features two teams vying for promotion.

Al-Salibikhaat have accumulated 41 points, and a win against Al-Jazira tomorrow would secure their promotion regardless of the result in the concurrent match between Al-Sahel and Al-Yarmouk at the Nassar Al-Asimi Stadium.

Meanwhile, Al-Jazira, the surprise package of the tournament with 38 points, will have a chance to make history if they win tomorrow and receive a boost from Al-Sahel’s victory over Al-Yarmouk. In that scenario, Al-Jazira would level with Al-Yarmouk on points but would gain promotion due to a superior head-to-head record.

In two other matches to determine the final standings, fifth-placed Khaitan (24 points) will face seventh-from-last Shamya (10 points), while sixth-placed Burqan (20 points) will play against last-place Sporty (6 points).
