Ibrahim Al-Halil: Growing interest in learning Japanese in Kuwait

The “Fundamentals of the Japanese Language” workshop was held at the Kuwait National Library in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy, running for two weeks with the participation of 16 trainees, and is delivered by Dr. Lecturer Ibrahim Al-Halil.

Al-Hilal explained that the workshop, part of the “Cultural Summer” festival, targets beginners and aims to provide participants with the basics of the Japanese language from scratch, giving them an initial linguistic foundation that qualifies them to continue studying and deepening their knowledge of the language in the future, for those interested.

He noted that interest in learning Japanese is growing, pointing out that the workshop includes participants from different age groups and levels, which presents a challenge in designing educational content. Therefore, the program was prepared to ensure everyone can benefit from it, with a focus on the basic skills needed by learners at the beginning of their journey with the Japanese language.

He added that the strong turnout for Japanese language courses is a notable indicator of growing interest in the language.

He mentioned that the workshop content, which spans 20 training hours over two weeks (two hours daily), is based on the standards of the Japan Foundation, utilizing the “Marugoto” textbook as one of the educational resources used in teaching Japanese.
