Romero Bolsters Atletico's Defense

Madrid - AFP - Atletico Madrid, fourth in last season’s La Liga, have signed Argentine defender Cristian Romero, the 2022 World Cup winner, from English club Tottenham Hotspur until the summer of 2031 for a fee of 40 million euros ($46 million), including bonuses and incentives.

The Argentine international, who was also part of the national team that lost the World Cup final to Spain, is Atletico’s fourth signing of the summer, following Alejandro Grimaldo, South Korean Lee Kang-in, and Dane Morten Hjulmand.

Romero arrives at Atletico just days after his compatriot and national team teammate Nahuel Molina moved to Italian club Roma.
