Al-Dar' Charity between Arsenal and City

Arsenal and Manchester City are set to kick off the new English football season in the Community Shield, a match that pits last season’s Premier League champions against the FA Cup winners.
Last season witnessed a fierce battle between Arsenal and Manchester City, with the gap between the two sides reaching as much as 12 points in Arsenal’s favor at certain stages. However, a series of setbacks significantly narrowed the margin to just two points, before Arsenal ultimately held on to secure the title for the first time in 22 years.
Despite this achievement, manager Mikel Arteta’s side faced criticism throughout the campaign from former stars and analysts, who argued that the team’s performances were not always convincing. This included the use of certain controversial tactics to gain an edge over rivals, such as the highly effective and debated corner-kick routines that have become a key scoring weapon for Arsenal.
The league champions’ transfer market was relatively quiet, with the club signing Brazilian playmaker Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United for approximately £75 million. They also exercised an option to permanently sign Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen, following his loan spell last season, and added Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Belgian side Club Brugge.
In contrast, several key players departed Arsenal. Belgian forward Leandro Trossard joined Turkish club Beşiktaş, while Danish midfielder Christian Nørgaard, who had not been a regular starter, moved to Everton. Portuguese club Porto signed Polish defender Jakub Kiwior.
The Community Shield represents the most significant trophy won by Arteta with Arsenal. Entering his eighth year as manager, having previously lifted the trophy twice, he is now aiming for a third title. Notably, he also won the competition as an assistant coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.
For Manchester City, manager Pep Guardiola recognizes that starting the season with a Community Shield triumph would be ideal. Although the trophy is not among the club’s primary targets, it serves as a valuable morale boost ahead of a long and demanding campaign.
Like Arsenal, City enjoyed a quiet summer transfer window. They signed former Marseille standout Argentine goalkeeper Germán Pezzella, while goalkeeper James Trafford moved to Leeds United. The league runners-up also renewed the contract of Belgian winger Jeremy Doku. Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds the future of one of the team’s most important players, Spanish midfielder Rodri, who recently led his national team to World Cup glory and was named the tournament’s best player.
Reports suggest that Rodri wishes to leave Manchester City, amid strong interest from Barcelona, which was preceded by interest from their rivals, Real Madrid.
