As part of the maintenance plan launched by the Ministry of Education during the summer break in preparation for the new academic year, engineering staff in the Educational Projects and Facilities Administration continue repairing waterproofing in several operational schools suffering from water leakage and seepage issues. This work is carried out in parallel with coordination with the Public Authority for Housing Welfare to address any observations or problems in new school buildings that remain within their contractual warranty period.
This measure is part of the routine maintenance works implemented by the Ministry during the summer, as a proactive step in preparation for the rainy season. Engineering teams identify schools requiring repair works in each educational district and prioritize interventions based on the condition of roofs and facilities, as well as the degree of maintenance need.
Repair works for waterproofing in schools suffering from leakage issues begin with a thorough cleaning of the roofs, removing air conditioning units and their accessories, and clearing all obstructions. Leakage and water seepage points are then identified to prepare for treatment and waterproofing installation. Once waterproofing works are completed, air conditioning units and their accessories are reinstalled in their original positions.
Concurrently with maintenance activities, engineering teams annually issue a set of guidelines to school administrations to preserve roof integrity. These guidelines emphasize keeping roofs clean and regularly clearing drains, as well as removing dust and debris that could obstruct the flow and drainage of rainwater, thereby preventing water accumulation on roofs during the rainy season.
Preventive measures also include monitoring the condition of rainwater drainage networks and associated facilities, ensuring they are free of obstructions that could lead to water accumulation, alongside addressing any observations on roofs before they worsen and impact school buildings.
