Al-Watani Warns of Financial Fraud Risks

As part of its efforts to engage with the youth and enhance their financial awareness, NBK (National Bank of Kuwait) organized an event on the shores of Umm Al-Maradom Island in collaboration with the “Nomads290” team and Al-Roudhatayn Company. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among this important segment of society about the risks of financial fraud, providing guidance on common fraud tactics and preventive measures, alongside distributing gifts to beachgoers.

The initiative is part of a series of activities and events conducted by NBK in support of the “Let’s Be Aware” campaign, launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait and the Kuwait Banks Association in partnership with local banks. The campaign seeks to elevate financial and banking awareness among the public, while reinforcing concepts of cybersecurity and the protection of personal and banking data.

The event witnessed widespread participation from island visitors and water sports enthusiasts, particularly young people for whom such activities are a key interest. NBK’s team prioritized direct engagement with the audience, educating them on prominent fraud and scam techniques targeting customers, especially those conducted via text messages, phone calls, and fake links. Practical advice was also provided to help individuals safeguard their personal and banking information.

Commenting on the occasion, Saud Al-Asaker, Senior Manager – Digital Communications at NBK, said: “NBK believes that effective financial awareness extends beyond traditional channels; it requires reaching members of society in various settings and interacting with them directly. This approach helps solidify financial security concepts and strengthens people’s ability to confront growing risks associated with electronic fraud. In this context, the event held at Umm Al-Maradom Island, in collaboration with the ‘Nomads290’ team and ‘Al-Roudhatayn,’ provided a direct communication platform with the public in a vibrant environment that brings together sea lovers, enabling the delivery of awareness messages in a more impactful and relatable manner.”

Al-Asaker added: “Financial fraud methods are continuously evolving alongside technological advancement and rapid digital transformation, making societal awareness the first line of defense in protecting individuals from falling victim to such practices. Therefore, NBK continues to support the ‘Let’s Be Aware’ campaign through a variety of field and awareness initiatives aimed at informing customers and the public about the latest fraud techniques. We emphasize the importance of not sharing banking data, passwords, or verification codes with any party, and of avoiding suspicious links or fake offers. We also strive to provide practical guidance that promotes the secure use of digital banking services, thereby supporting efforts to build a more aware community capable of protecting itself from financial and electronic risks.”

“Nomads290” is one of the leading Kuwaiti platforms specializing in maritime content and outdoor activities. It is managed by a group of young enthusiasts passionate about marine and coastal life, offering diverse content that documents their experiences in various water-based activities such as sailing, jet skiing, windsurfing, and more.

The team also keeps its followers updated with daily reports on sea and weather conditions, while sharing experiences and stories from beachgoers, fishermen, divers, and others interested in marine activities. This approach has helped build a broad audience, establishing the team as one of the most prominent creators of specialized content highlighting coastal lifestyle in Kuwait.

The National Bank continues to implement its community and awareness initiatives aimed at promoting financial literacy and enhancing digital security among members of society, in line with its leading role and social responsibility, and its ongoing commitment to contributing to the protection of customers and the public from the risks of financial fraud and cybercrime, as well as to entrenching safe banking practices within Kuwaiti society.
