Lebanon signs MoU with UK to support security

The Ministry of Interior and Municipalities said in a statement that Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar and National Defense Minister Michel Moushny signed, with British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Coall at the Interior Ministry headquarters in Beirut, a memorandum of understanding regarding the British program to support security in Lebanon.

The signatories emphasized the importance of this partnership, which “reflects the depth of existing cooperation between Lebanon and the United Kingdom and the commitment to continue joint efforts in the security field and to enhance the capacities of Lebanese military and security institutions.”

The statement noted that the “British program to support security in Lebanon” aims to strengthen efforts “to consolidate security and reduce factors contributing to instability in Lebanon,” as well as to empower security institutions that constitute the backbone of the Lebanese state in order to “fortify them against internal and external threats.”

The program includes work to improve the capacity to confront security threats, including counter-terrorism and combating criminal violence, alongside the rehabilitation and equipping of facilities and infrastructure, supporting the digital infrastructure of an intelligence-led policing model, and providing the necessary training.
