Sheikh Hamad Al-Jaber, in his speech during his patronage and attendance at the awareness seminar organized by the Ahmadi Governorate today, Thursday, under the title “The Sustainable Governorate” in collaboration with the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs and Kuwait Oil Company, stated that sustainability has become an integrated approach based on the optimal use of resources, enhancing performance efficiency, strengthening social responsibility, and consolidating transparency and governance.

He noted that sustainability holds special significance for the Ahmadi Governorate, given its economic and developmental weight and its inclusion of leading national sectors, foremost among them the oil sector, which reinforces its role in implementing best sustainability practices and achieving a balance between development and environmental protection.

For her part, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, Nof Al-Bahbahani, emphasized in her speech that the true value of sustainability lies in transitioning from a theoretical concept to a practical approach that impacts decisions, institutional performance, and the sustainability of resources.

She stated that sustainability has become a fundamental element in institutions’ ability to manage their resources, confront risks, achieve growth, and shape a more efficient and stable future.

She added that this event aligns with the direction led by the Minister of State for Development and Sustainability, Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, to consolidate sustainability as an integrated national approach and enhance its presence in the planning and decision-making framework.

She clarified that this direction achieves integration among environmental, developmental, economic, and social dimensions, and supports the transition of state institutions from scattered initiatives to sustainable institutional practices based on planning, performance measurement, and maximizing impact.

Al-Bahbahani stressed that this direction holds particular importance in the State of Kuwait, given the environment’s role as a cornerstone of development and the need for the upcoming phase to integrate environmental protection with economic and social development.

She noted that the Environmental Authority supports sustainability, enhances the quality of environmental data, encourages impact measurement, and promotes the adoption of practices that yield tangible results, highlighting cooperation with Kuwait Oil Company as an important model of partnership among national entities.

She mentioned that the company possesses extensive expertise and advanced experience in operational and environmental practices that can be leveraged to develop performance indicators, exchange knowledge, improve practices, and transform accumulated expertise into institutional and national value.

Al-Bahbahani said that the coming phase requires transitioning from managing initiatives to managing impact, from collecting data to utilizing it in decision-making, and from complying with requirements to anticipating risks and turning them into opportunities for improvement and development.
