Left-wing Democrats win in Minnesota and lose in Wisconsin

Washington (AFP) – The left-wing faction of the Democratic Party won a U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota’s primary election but unexpectedly lost another key primary in Wisconsin, according to U.S. media projections.

As the November midterm elections approach, the Democratic Party is witnessing an ideological struggle between its centrist wing, backed by party leaders, and a new generation of left-wing candidates.

In Minnesota, left-wing candidate Peggy Flanagan defeated her rival Angie Craig, securing 59 percent of the vote compared to Craig’s 39 percent, according to media reports.

In Wisconsin, where a primary was held to determine the future governor, centrist David Crowley narrowly defeated left-wing candidate Francesca Hong, who had been considered the frontrunner in opinion polls.

According to projections by CNN, CBS, and NBC, Crowley won by less than half a percentage point, with 39.8 percent of the vote to Hong’s 39.4 percent.
