Tragedy in Egypt: 18 dead in collision between two worker transport trucks

AFP – At least 18 people, mostly children, died on Tuesday in northern Egypt after two small trucks carrying agricultural workers collided, a local medical source told AFP.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health had earlier announced that 47 people were killed or injured in the accident, which occurred in the El-Dawawas area of Ismailia Governorate, including about 30 injured.
The source, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, told AFP that “most of the deceased were children aged 13 and 14,” while Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper reported that the youngest victim was 10 years old.
The workers, mostly from two villages in Sharqia Governorate in the Nile Delta, were “on their way to work at a farm in Ismailia,” according to a local security source who told AFP.
