Pakistan: Positive signs toward a peace agreement between the US and Iran

Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, said on Tuesday that the United States and Iran are nearing “some kind of arrangement” regarding peace, noting that a lasting agreement would benefit the entire region. Asif told Bloomberg, “Matters are again moving in favor of a peace arrangement or agreement,” clarifying that indicators from the past two or three days suggest the two sides are approaching consensus. He stressed that recent signs point to the possibility of diplomatic progress between Washington and Tehran.

These remarks come as U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Iran paying compensation is a fundamental condition for any future negotiations to resolve the dispute with Tehran, marking a new escalation in rhetoric in response to similar demands made by Iran, at a time when attention was focused on the prospect of a near-term agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump, in a post on his platform Truth Social on Monday, demanded compensation for “all the killed and wounded who fell due to their roadside bombs and various conflicts,” and also stressed the need to compensate the families of protesters killed by the Iranian leadership over the past 50 years.
