"Don't rely on me": Alvarez erupts in anger after returning to Atletico's training

Julian Alvarez, the striker for Spanish club Atletico Madrid, erupted in anger at the club’s headquarters on Monday after failing to speak with his coach, Diego Simeone, to inform him of his decision to leave for Barcelona. Alvarez reportedly asked club officials not to rely on him in the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old attended Atletico Madrid’s training session on Monday for the first time since the 2026 World Cup final. He had expected to meet with his coach, Simeone, who had traveled to Ibiza for a two-day break. This situation fueled Alvarez’s frustration, and he reaffirmed his determination to join Barcelona, according to the newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

Alvarez believes that his veteran coach was not brave enough to address the issue with the club and chose to travel to Ibiza despite knowing that the player intended to speak with him during Monday’s training. Additionally, Chief Executive Gil Martin was absent and refused to speak with the Argentine forward.

Alvarez warned those present at the club about his dwindling patience, stating, “There will be consequences for what has happened. I will not accept this, and I advise you not to rely on me in the next season.”
