Google May Soon Drop the 'Google Search' Button

Google is constantly seeking new ways to steer users toward its AI features, and this week the company is testing another AI-focused modification to its search engine.

Some users are seeing a version of the search page that replaces the “Google Search” button with three AI feature buttons: “Create images,” “Ask questions about files,” and “Brainstorm,” according to a report by Search Engine Watch, a site specializing in search engine news and analysis.

This new design appears for some users when they visit Google’s homepage without being signed in.

Clicking “Create images” displays a set of suggestions for types of images that can be generated using Google’s “Nano Banana” AI model.

“Ask questions about files” allows users to upload files and ask questions about them, with Google’s AI attempting to provide answers.

The “Brainstorm” option appears to enable starting a conversation with Google’s AI on any topic.

With the old “Google Search” button gone, the redesigned search homepage contains no explicit reference to web search, focusing entirely on AI functionalities. However, users can still perform a standard search by typing text into the search bar and pressing the Enter or Return key on the keyboard.

It is unclear how widespread this test is, or whether Google will ultimately roll it out to all users.
