Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of Agriculture Organize Workshop on Accreditation Requirements for Veterinary Laboratories

The workshop, organized in collaboration with the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fisheries and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Kuwait, focuses on assessing the current capacities of veterinary laboratories, identifying their technical needs and infrastructure requirements, enhancing coordination among relevant stakeholders, and identifying opportunities for ongoing technical support and capacity building.

The workshop also addresses the importance of strengthening preparedness and surveillance to combat antimicrobial resistance in the animal and agricultural sectors, within the framework of the “One Health” approach, which underscores the close interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health.

This initiative stems from the important national role played by the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fisheries in safeguarding animal health, overseeing veterinary services, and combating animal diseases, alongside its role in supporting food security and biosecurity in Kuwait.

The Institute clarified that through this partnership, the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fisheries and the World Health Organization aim to strengthen national capacities in animal health and biosecurity, and support Kuwait’s efforts to address antimicrobial resistance within an integrated One Health approach, thereby contributing to the protection of human, animal, and environmental health, and enhancing health security in Kuwait.
