Al-Awadi issues a ministerial decision to regulate and control the conduct of surgical operations and medical interventions

The decision includes a set of controls and procedures governing surgical work, the most prominent of which is linking the performance of surgeries and medical interventions to the physician’s specialty, license, and privileges, according to classifications approved by departmental councils and endorsed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry.

The decision also stipulates the enhancement of patients’ rights through obtaining informed consent, disclosing the identity of the medical team, and documenting this in the medical record.

Furthermore, the decision emphasizes the priority of emergency cases by ensuring the availability of operating rooms and necessary staff for emergencies that cannot tolerate delay.

The controls also cover continuity of care after surgeries, through post-operative or post-intervention follow-up of the patient, with documentation of the treatment plan, follow-up, and subsequent reviews.

Additionally, the decision mandates comprehensive documentation of procedures by recording details of surgeries and medical interventions, as well as the participating medical team, in the medical record and the surgical log.
