"Rasul Sulaiman" ... Arrived in Kuwait

The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research has recorded the arrival of the Solomon’s hoopoe, a migratory bird that stepped on Kuwaiti soil during the past week, as part of its autumn migration. This seasonal phenomenon coincides with the beginning of milder weather and the retreat of the summer heatwave.

Dr. Sara Al-Dosari, an academic researcher at the institute, told Al-Rai that the hoopoe was spotted within the institute’s garden, alongside small groups of other migratory birds, as well as several coastal species, including the grey heron and the rock dove. Additionally, flocks of flamingos were observed along the Shuwaikh coastline.

Dr. Al-Dosari explained that the flamingo flocks, along with other migratory bird species, will continue to arrive in Kuwait in waves in the coming weeks, with their numbers peaking during the winter season.

She added that the institute’s monitoring teams will track all migratory bird species throughout the current season, documenting their populations, behaviors, and activities from their arrival in Kuwait until their departure.

She noted that the institute will also monitor the timing of the flamingos’ departure from Kuwait to determine whether they will leave in March, as they did last year, or if they will return to their usual pattern of staying until April and May, as has been the case in previous years.
